ENERGY
MLAW inspection services include foundation inspections, framing inspections, energy inspections, third party inspections, and miscellaneous construction phase inspections.
MLAW Engineers' sister company, MLA Labs, Inc. provides geotechnical investigations (including soil testing, test pits and trenches, and the drilling of borings), construction materials testing, residential lot fill testing (79 G), and soils reports.
MLAW’s detailed investigations will ensure that your foundation and structural design best fit your site.

Green Building and Energy Efficiency
New mandates and growing customer demand require that all homes and buildings be constructed with an increasingly higher level of energy efficiency. New and existing technologies make it possible to build an energy-efficient home or structure (build green), resulting in savings on your monthly utility bill. MLAW Energy provides energy rating and auditing services for new and existing homes and structures, catering to builders, general contractors, architects, individuals, and offering commercial and industrial energy optimization audits.

Efficiency Evaluation
New and existing technologies make it possible to build an energy-efficient home or structure (build green), resulting in savings on your monthly utility bill. MLAW Energy’s team can review and rate your construction plans, evaluating the efficiency of insulation, windows and doors, appliances, HVAC systems, and exterior cladding.

Comprehensive Home Evaluation
MLAW Energy can evaluate any home’s energy use to:
-
Pinpoint where and how a structure is losing energy.
-
Determine which systems in the structure are working inefficiently.
-
Identify cost-effective measures to rectify inefficiencies.

HERS and Detailed Energy Audits
MLAW Energy is a Certified RESNET HERS Rater and Auditor. The HERS Index (Home Energy Rating System Index) is a nationally recognized scoring system for measuring a home’s energy performance, akin to a "miles-per-gallon" sticker for houses. This score allows homeowners to compare their home’s energy efficiency to similar homes.
In addition to the HERS Index Score, MLAW Energy provides a detailed home energy rating that includes:
-
Blower Door Test
-
Duct Leakage Test
-
Combustion Analysis
-
Infrared Camera Survey
This audit will determine:
-
The location and number of air leaks in the building envelope.
-
The amount of leakage occurring from HVAC distribution ducts.
-
The effectiveness of insulation inside walls and ceilings.
-
Any existing or potential combustion safety issues.
This whole-house evaluation will identify and prioritize proposed treatments for improvement, which will be documented in a written report provided to the client.

Compliance with Energy Codes
The 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) requires energy code testing for all residential single-family construction in Texas permitted after January 1, 2012.
